About this Event
This course is aimed at experienced union reps, organisers or officials who have completed a number of training courses with the TUC or their own union. The course is intended to lift our horizons beyond the workplace.
This course will develop your understanding of the history of the labour movement in the UK by discussing key events in union history. The course helps union reps to assess different strategies adopted by our movement in often challenging circumstances, not just in Britain but around the globe.
The course adopts a bottom up approach to studying history, from the standpoint of working people engaged in struggles for better conditions, democracy and equality. We will delve into major debates that took place within the workers’ movement, from its early days up to the late 20th century. By encouraging discussion and self-reflection, the course hopes to build confidence amongst union members, to allow them to fully participate in contemporary debates in unions today.
How long is the course?
This course will be delivered over 5 weeks in a classroom every Monday.
How much is the course?
There are no course fees for union reps from TUC affiliated unions.
