This workshop is designed to remove the pressure of writing “perfectly” and allows participants to express themselves freely through colors, shapes, and images. It also makes the journaling process more intuitive and reflective—helping them tap into emotions and ideas beyond just words.

Nella Rohan
Facilitator, Multidisciplinary Writer
Nella Rohan is a mom, educator, and multidisciplinary writer in film journalism, poetry, and narrative nonfiction who has been writing professionally since 1998. Nella, who often produces work under the pseudonym Nella Fitzgerald, attended UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television, where she earned a Master’s degree in Cinema and Media Studies. As a trauma-informed educator, Nella primarily instructs high school students in film and media studies and creative writing. She enjoys sharing her love for the arts and empowering students to think critically about the media they consume.
Nella maintains a robust involvement in the arts and literary worlds. She has previously worked as a Staff Writer for Shadow and Act. She is working on her first collection of personal essays and developing a podcast on the health benefits of developing a journaling practice. Nella is also a member of Art House Convergence, a national organization of independent cinema professionals. She resides in the Brewerytown section of North Philadelphia with her brilliant and talented teenage daughter.

ArtWell Skill Builds
Skill Builds are a monthly workshop dedicated to sharing a human-centered and creative approach to community work. On the first Saturday of every month, ArtWell hosts a guest facilitator to teach on a range of topics from creating multiple entry points to activities, identifying maltreatment of youth, event planning, giving and receiving feedback, and more. Regardless of vocation, career focus, or level of experience, ArtWell welcomes all who seek to be a part of a learning community.
