exploring scalable responses to PTSD/Trauma
About this Event
As the war in Ukraine grinds on month by month, the country faces an inexorable mental health crisis. Members of the armed forces and veterans of the conflict struggle with PTSD and related conditions.
The broader population is suffering too - from the effects of the continued bombardment, the loss of their loved ones or the fear for their safety, family separation and displacement, as well as anxiety and depression caused by the impact of living in a country at war.
The evening is hosted by Medaid who has brought together a team of panellists to focus on scalable responses to PTSD and other mental health trauma. The team includes Professor Walter Busuttil, former Medical Director and Director of Research at Combat Stress, and Father Vitaliy Novak, the former head of De Paul in Ukraine who is currently serving in the Ukrainian military and has particular experience of the mental health challenges facing soldiers and veterans. We will also talk about the innovative psychosocial support courses offered by Moe Kolo, which was co-founded by Medaid in Lviv in 2023.
Dennis Ougrin is working with professionals worldwide to help Ukrainian children get the mental health support they need, particularly addressing the psychological trauma from the war. His research includes support for Ukrainian refugee children, including art-based workshops and digital problem-solving interventions for depression and anxiety symptoms in displaced children.
Ukrainians need our support in facing this acute crisis as well as for the rebuilding process to follow.
