About this Event
Johannes Brahms composed his Piano Quartet in G Minor Op. 25 between 1856-1861, and it was premiered in 1861 with Clara Schumann at the piano and the Hellmesberger Quartet. It "combines a troubled Romantic vocabulary with a poised, almost symphonic mastery of musical architecture ". (Hyperion Records)
Coupled with the Trio Op. 9 No. 3 in C minor, an intense and dramatic work that is considered one of his finest pueces of chamber music, we plumb the depths of Romantic era intellect and emotion.
As a fascinating contrast, pianist David Louie will treat us with selections from Janáček's "On an Overgrown Path" , many of which have their origins in Moravian folk melodies.
