About this Event
Description:
Globally, trafficking and sexual exploitation is a worldwide criminal enterprise with 94% of women and girls predominantly impacted. Traffickers or perpetrators utilize sexual violence as a mechanism to exert power, control, and abuse upon other human beings. In the face of adversity, survivors encounter social and cultural stigmas related to trafficking and sexual exploitation and sexual assault, which impedes self-empowerment, self-determination, and collaborative, client-centered treament approaches.
Throughout the Trafficking & Sexual Exploitation: The Invisible Wounds course, participants will enhance their clinical skillsets for identifying the psychological effects of involuntary servitude, human suffering and torture, trafficking, and sexual exploitation. Additionally, participants will expand their knowledgebase of "trauma bonding" or "Stockholm Syndrome" and substantiate the implications for applying evidence-based therapies, intergrative approaches, and interventions for treating complex trauma through a trauma-focused lens.
Objectives:
After this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the psychological and physiological effects of involuntary servitude, human suffering and torture, trafficking, and sexual exploitation.
- Describe the relationship between survivors of trafficking and sexual exploitation, "trauma bonding" or "Stockholm Syndrome", and human survival instinct.
- Define child sex trafficking and the United States Federal Child Exploitation Laws and discuss the four paradigms of sex trafficking.
- Recognize child sex trafficking signs, indicators, myths, grooming tactics, and risk factors.
