Tot Onyx
Tot Onyx arbejder med metalobjekter. Kravler op på bordet med mixerpulten, stryger en kniv mod et severingsfad, som hun holder tæt om sig. Bag kunstneraliaset finder man den japanske lydkunstner og performer Tommi Tokyo, der er bosat i Berlin. I sin kunst forener hun performance, lydkunst og postindustriel dekonstruktivisme i et viltert og radikalt udtryk. Som den ene halvdel af den eksperimenterende performance duo group A, gjorde Tommi Tokyo sig bemærket for banebrydende performances, hvor kroppens bevægelser, noiselydlandskaber og poesi tilsammen brødr med publikums forventninger til hvad en kunstnerisk performance kunne være. Det er de samme tanker, som Tommi Tokyo viderefører i sit soloprojekt.
I 2021 komponerede hun musikken til danseforestillingen ‘Das Beuys’ på Theater Thikwa i Berlin i anledningen af den tyske konceptkunstner Joseph Beuys 100-års fødselsdag. Forestillingen blev til i samarbejde med koreograf og Butoh-danser Yuko Kaseki, som hun har samarbejdet med ved flere lejligheder. Blandt andet under Atonal, en festival for lyd- og billedkunst i Berlin i 2023. Her lavede de sammen en performance, der varede flere dage. Tot Onyx er aktuel med albummet ‘Satire of Desire’, som udkom sidste år på det belgiske pladeselskab Antibody label. Debuten, ‘Senno I’, blev beskrevet sådan her: “It's a record that's honest enough to capture the ugliness and cavernous depth of the mind; all its beauty is inevitably snatched away to be buried by guttural screams or digitally rehashed machine belches.” Så forvent noget inderligt, kraftfuldt og intenst, når Tot Onyx kommer til ALICEs scene!

Med en kunstnerisk praksis, der strækker sig over musik, filmkomposition, performance og installationer, udforsker den kinesiske berlin-baserede kunstner otay:onii aka Lane Shi grænserne mellem lyd og følelser. Hun har i den grad vakt opsigt på den internationale avantgardescene med sine performative og musikalske værker. Her navigerer hun fra humoristiske indslag til de barske realiteter for immigranter fra tredjeverdenslande og rodfæstede østlige perspektiver, som hun deler med den vestlige verden i et forsøg på at bygge bro over kløfterne. Otay:oniis performances er rå, provokerende og smukke, når hun udfolder sin vokal i usandsynlige eksperimenter.
otay:onii har tidligere beriget publikum verden over med koncerter på festivaler som CTM og Roadburn, og opsigtsvækkende performances på institutioner som Harvard University og Ming Contemporary Art Museum. På ALICE udfolder hun materialet fra "True Faith Ain't Blind", et album, hvor klassisk musik og metal smelter sammen i intense kompositioner for klaver og vokal, og hvor der åbnes op for en lytning uden forudindtagelser. Tot Onyx works with metal objects. She climbs onto the table with the mixing console, running a knife against a serving tray, holding it close to her body. Behind this artistic alias stands Japanese sound artist and performer Tommi Tokyo, now based in Berlin. In her work, she merges performance, sound art, and post-industrial deconstructivism into a wild and radical expression. As one half of the experimental performance duo group A, Tommi Tokyo gained recognition for groundbreaking performances that fused body movement, noise soundscapes, and poetry—challenging audience expectations of what an artistic performance could be. These same ideas carry over into her solo project.
In 2021, she composed the music for the dance production Das Beuys at Theater Thikwa in Berlin, marking the 100th anniversary of German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys. The performance was created in collaboration with choreographer and Butoh dancer Yuko Kaseki, with whom she has worked on multiple occasions—including at Berlin Atonal 2023, a festival for sound and visual art, where they staged a multi-day performance. Tot Onyx is currently promoting her latest album, ‘Satire of Desire’, released last year on the Belgian label Antibody.
