About this Event
Tomasz Kamieniak is a Polish pianist and composer whose repertoire spans both well-known composers and lesser-performed works. He studied piano under Joanna Domańska at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice and continued advanced studies with Rolf‑Dieter Arens in Weimar. He has also taken part in masterclasses with respected pianists including Konstantin Scherbakov, Zbigniew Raubo, and Leslie Howard. Kamieniak has been recognized in international competitions, receiving a special prize at the Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Weimar and the Grand Prix at the “Forgotten Polish Music” competition, which led to a recording devoted to the music of Józef Wieniawski. He has performed widely across Europe and Asia, appearing as a soloist and chamber musician in venues and festivals in Slovakia, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, and Taiwan. Notable performances include Liszt’s complete Wagner transcriptions in Bayreuth on Liszt’s own 1876 piano.
In addition to his work as a performer, Kamieniak is active as a composer and arranger. His works include music for solo piano, harpsichord, chamber ensembles, and voice, as well as film scores and transcriptions. He has arranged music by composers such as Philip Glass, Henryk Górecki, Sergei Prokofiev, and Queen. His recent compositions include a Concerto for Harpsichord and String Orchestra, Op. 78, premiered in Białystok and Warsaw, and “Sceny” for cello and piano, Op. 81, premiered in Kielce. His orchestral work *Landschaften nach Caspar David Friedrich*, Op. 84, will be premiered in 2025 by the Archetti Chamber Orchestra. His compositions are published by MusePress (Japan) and Ars Musica (Poland), and have been performed by prominent Polish soloists and ensembles. Kamieniak is currently based in Berlin, where he continues to develop his dual career as a pianist and composer.
