As the centenary of the influential composer Tite Curet Alonso is about to be celebrated the award-winning actor and playwright Josean Ortiz brings his story to life in the moving monologue “Tite Curet Alonso: Lyric and Poetry.” The anecdotal piece inspired by the book of the same name by folklorist Norma Salazar traces the cultural legacy of one of the greatest composers of bolero and salsa in the 20th century in Latin America of Puerto Rican origin. With an acting record as intense as its history is diverse Ortiz has stood out for bringing illustrious figures of the black race to the stage through pieces he has authored. In addition he has established a name for himself in New York theater as an actor director and producer.
