About this Event
Join us for an interactive foam tile making workshop led by Sweet Auburn Artist-in-Residence Miranda Creagan!
Utilizing her expertise as a multidisciplinary artist, Miranda will teach participants how to cast and carve honeycomb shaped foam tiles that are reminiscent of Sweet Auburn's sidewalks. These tiles will be incorporated into a 3D structure that will be activated through a public video and sound installation in June.
All materials needed will be provided.
A light lunch and beverages will be served.
More Information About the Final Installation
Through the Cracks is a video and sound installation that explores the resilience and excellence of the Sweet Auburn neighborhood despite having a history of negligence, violence, and apathy experienced by members of this community over the decades. The installation includes video elements of infrastructure problems in the neighborhood, such as the interstate that runs directly through it, broken sidewalk tiles and other hazards. It’ll also include a stop motion video of the lifecycle of a W**d or wildflower growing between the cracks in the pavement.

About Miranda Creagan
Miranda Creagan is a multidisciplinary artist based in Atlanta, GA. Inspired by themes of relationships, home, and family, her work includes interactive sculptures, photography, as well as sound and video installations. Creagan's practice is centered on the ideas of intimacy and vulnerability. This began as an investigation of human interaction with her pedestal-shaped interactive sculptures. Disrupting the social norms of the traditional gallery space, Creagan's sculptures ask viewers to become risk takers and intimately engage with the pieces through vague visual clues. More recently, her sound and video installations investigate her personal and family relationships. Originally meant as a way to process grief, these installations developed into a way to honor her relationships both past and present.
