About this Event
Clarinet, violin, cello, and piano converge in a programme that moves from shadowed Romantic introspection to one of the most profound musical responses to human suffering ever written.
Featuring:
- Clarinet — Leo Kerr
- Violin — Glen Mouat
- Cello — Lucy Pye
- Piano — Catriona Mackenzie
At the heart of the evening lies Ernest Chausson’s Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 3—a work of restless lyricism and brooding intensity, where cyclical themes circle back like memories that refuse to settle.
This gives way to Olivier Messiaen’s Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time)—a transcendent, eight-movement work composed in a prisoner-of-war camp in 1940–41, scored for the same forces as tonight’s ensemble.
