About this Event
Studio jewelers Biba Schutz, Steve Ford (Ford/Forlano), Mary Hallam Pearse and Kathleen Browne come together to display recent work. Each day, one of the artists will host a conversation about their own work and process.
Kathleen Browne
Kathleen Browne is Professor Emerita at Kent State University where she headed the Jewelry/Metals/Enameling program for 23 years. Her work has been published in 17 books and is in the collections of the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC, the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, the Newark Museum, and the Racine Museum.
Steve Ford
Ford/Forlano is an self-taught creative partnership making jewelry in Philadelphia and Santa Fe since 1988. Ford and Forlano send work back and forth between their two studios until it feels alive to both artists. They work to transform polymer, a man-made material, into pieces that look like they were found in nature. Their work is in many public and private collections around the US and Europe.
Mary Hallam Pearse
Mary Hallam Pearse received her M.F.A. in Metal from SUNY New Paltz and a B.F.A. in Crafts with an emphasis in Jewelry and Metals from Kent State University. Her work centers around the symbolic and emotive resonance of jewelry and potent materials and how they participate in culture. Shifting scale, moving from image to object to material conditions, her workdramatically changes directions prompted by life events.
Biba Schutz
Biba Schutz is a true New Yorker. Born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens and for the past 40 years, Manhattan has been her home. A self-taught jeweler, she has challenged her curiosity and developed her skills to create her voice. Her jewelry is often published and in private and museum collections in the US and internationally.
