About this Event

For this instalment of our Kitchen Stories series, we’ll be joined by self-taught baker and pastry chef Matt Adlard. He’ll be with us on the 3rd Floor at our Piccadilly store to talk more about his passion for baking and his brand new book.

Matt has appeared on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, and served as a judge on our own Platinum Pudding Competition. Through his online school, Bake It Better, as well as his Instagram, Facebook and TikTok videos, Matt shares the basics of baking, how to transition to advanced skills, and how to become a pro-level baker. His debut cookbook Bake It Better was a Publisher’s Weekly bestseller.

In his new book The Science of Baking, Matt demystifies the science behind our favourite treats by creating a go-to cheat sheet for understanding what really happens in the kitchen. Discover what separates a fudgy brownie from a cakey one, why kneading and folding dough produce different textures, and how many lamination layers you need for the perfect croissant.

If you’d like to learn more from Matt, be sure to book your ticket today for this set-to-be-delicious event.
