About this Event
This open studio introduces Sandra Abode’s evolving multidisciplinary practice, bringing together art, textiles, film, photography and movement. A London-born artist of Nigerian and Togolese heritage, Abode explores themes of identity, culture and sustainability through her creative work and her slow fashion brand, Sabodé.
Seven years after the first chapter of her series IYACHI ONYA (Wild Woman), Abode presents "Home Body", a new self-portrait series examining the relationship between the body, home and creativity. Inspired by Women Who Run With The Wolves and shaped by a three-year sabbatical in Lagos, the work reflects on rest, healing and reconnection following the pandemic.
Through somatic movement, sound and mundane routines, Home Body asks how the body can become a site of home—particularly in response to displacement, trauma and post-pandemic life. The installation invites visitors into Abode’s creative process while opening space for conversation around embodiment, environment, Afro-diasporic identity and communal healing practices.
This open studio marks the beginning of a larger body of work and a chance to engage with the artist, local community and wider Afro-diasporic perspectives on home, rest and creativity.
