About this Event
LOVE. LOYALTY. BROTHERHOOD. BETRAYAL.
From rural Jamaica to ancient Jerusalem, Easton Lee's masterpiece The Rope and The Cross spins an enthralling tale about two of history's most compelling and controversial figures-Jesus Christ and Judas Iscariot. Weaving together past and present, fact and fiction, Lee presents these mythical characters as if they were ordinary Jamaican men- young, rebellious and determined to revolutionalise 'the system.' But they tragically discover that, then as now, the politics of division will always be employed by those in power to squash rebellion and prevent change we can believe in.
First performed in Siloah,St Elizabeth in Jamaica on Easter weekend 1979, The Rope and The Cross lives on in this staged concert reading production, featuring Oliver Samuels as The Shepherd/Narrator and CBS TV star Zay Harding as The High Priest Annas. And nearly five decades after its world premiere- and thousands of years after its events- Easton Lee's tale of Christ's passion is as relevant today as ever- an unforgettable experience that the entire family can share and treasure.
