About this Event
The Pleasure Gardens of Panshanger
Location: Panshanger Park
Group size: Maximum 20 people
Duration: Approx. 45 minutes
Suitable for: Adults and older children (children must be accompanied by an adult)
Uncover the lost beauty of Panshanger’s historic gardens through images, maps, and expert insight.
Join landscape historian Dr Anne Rowe for a fascinating illustrated presentation on the pleasure gardens of Panshanger, created from the 18th century onwards. Drawing on a rich archive of old illustrations, photographs, and detailed contemporary accounts, Dr Rowe will bring to life the gardens that once surrounded the grand mansion.
Although the gardens – like the house – were dismantled and their urns and balustrades auctioned off 75 years ago, traces still remain, hidden in the landscape and revealed through modern LiDAR imagery.
This talk will explore what once existed and what still survives, offering a glimpse into the elegance and artistry of a lost era.
Please note:
- This is a seated illustrated talk and does not involve a walk.
- Suitable for adults and older children (children must be accompanied by an adult).
- once you've heard about the gardens, either explore the Western area yourself or join David's walk this afternoon to see where they were.
