About this Event

Heritage Walk & Talk: Stories of Panshanger Park

Location: Panshanger Park

Group size: Maximum 20 people

Duration: Approx. 1.5–2 hours

Suitable for: Adults and older children (children must be accompanied by an adult)

Step back in time and explore the fascinating heritage of Panshanger Park.

Join volunteer guide David for an engaging illustrated talk and guided walk uncovering the rich history of the park and its former residents. The event begins with a 30-minute presentation covering the estate’s background and the influential family who once called it home.

Following the talk, the walk will explore some of Panshanger’s key historic features:

  • The remains of the original house
  • The iconic Repton-designed view across the Mimram Valley
  • The Orangery and its gardens (with a possible closer look inside the fence, subject to volunteer availability)
  • The legendary Panshanger Oak, which has welcomed royalty, prime ministers, ambassadors, and TV personalities
  • The site Repton envisioned as the ideal location for the house

Please note:

  • The walk covers approximately 1.5 miles, mainly on gravel or grassy paths.
  • Surfaces may be uneven or muddy in wet weather – please wear suitable footwear.
  • The route is mostly level, with one short descent and climb near the Oak.

Suitable for adults and older children (children must be accompanied by an adult).

From the B1000 look for the White lodge building and Tarmac signs. http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=529266&Y=213486&A... Enter through the metal gate and follow the track along until there is a right fork with signs to ‘Area Office’. Continue along this track until you reach a car park. Do not use the Thieves Lane Carpark.

This event is part of Heritage Open Days 2025 at Panshanger Park. Make sure to also explore the stables and check out the other free activities happening over the weekend. But please book to avoid disapointment.

This event is hosted by site owners Tarmac.
