Our first ever event in our room downstairs was with Rob Cowen for the release of his beautiful poetry collection, The Heeding.Five years later we’re delighted to be welcoming Rob back to Holmfirth again on Saturday 25th April to celebrate the paperback release of his latest book, The North Road.
The North Road centres on the history of The Great North Road but woven into this is Rob’s own family history and also the stories of many of the people of have shaped the landscape over hundreds of years.
As a father of young children, Rob found himself in need of inspiration for his writing. Consumed by the day to day pressures of having a young family, he found it difficult to start writing again.
Then one day, after a passing comment from his father, he ended up visiting a dig by the side of the A1 and he was mesmerised by the history of the road that had never been far away from him his whole life.
This is an epic piece of writing, spanning ten years of Rob’s life. It is thought provoking, informative and a completely original way of looking at the history of such a significant yet overlooked part of our society.
The event will be held at:
