About this Event

In this first installment of The Neighbor Project, I sit down with Ashlie Hairston, a former sex worker, who wrestled with the truths of where she came from and forged a new identity of belonging after a lifetime of feeling “other.” Ashlie's story is a masterclass on transformation and the deep inner work required to craft a new reality for ourselves. This conversation highlights the often-overlooked component of belonging and identity in someone's healing journey, and the ways in which connecting to our own humanity is the key to fostering empowering relationships.

The Neighbor Project conversations always start with an art piece. For my conversation with Ashlie, we'll be screening "Bridge Between Worlds." The short documentary features Ashlie as she journeys back to key places from her childhood and time in ‘the game’. More than recounting memories, she revisits her perspective and how she saw the world, and herself in it, and the radical practice of hope that opened the door for a new life.

The Neighbor Project is a free community gathering. Donations are optional, but registration for every attendee is required.

About The Neighbor Project

As our world drastically shifts around us, I feel the pull to anchor in everything that is real, true, and good. To deepen genuine, authentic connection with myself first and with my neighbors. The world is crazy, and the news is worse. But I believe there’s more to the story, more to our world, than what we see on our screens. So it’s time to start seeing with our eyes.

I am starting community gatherings that center some of the most inspiring people I know to hold the kinds of conversations we need to foster unity, hope, clarity, and direction. I’d call them live podcasts (because we’ll be recording them!), but they’re so much more than that. Because, as much as I believe in the power of conversations, we’re already drowning in an ocean of content. This is more than content. It’s connection. It’s community.
