About this Event
At a time when gender roles generally excluded women’s participation in business, science, and sport, Katherine Chandler and other entrepreneurial women of the early 20th century built successful tourism businesses at Lake Tahoe.
In telling their stories, author and UC Davis alumna Janet Kaidantzis relied on materials, including diaries, personal correspondence, and photographs, from two major collections in the UC Davis Library’s Archives and Special Collections: the Pierce Family Papers (D-022) and the Glen Alpine Springs Collection (D-698). In her talk, Kaidantzis will share the remarkable story of these women and a glimpse into her research process.
Selected items from the collections will be on display during the event for attendees to explore.
