About this Event
This contemplative gathering at Santa Barbara Yoga Center offers a grounded space to slow down not by withdrawing from life, but by meeting it with awareness.
Rooted in the Korean tradition of Darye (다례), the ceremony centers on Janggun-cha (장군차), a gently fermented yellow tea from Gimhae. Through patient resting and subtle transformation, the tea embodies balance and attentive presence, an expression of the Middle Path (中道).
The experience includes a traditional tea ritual and four rounds of mindful tasting, accompanied by curated, recorded classical music selected in collaboration with Barbara Hirsch, theater sound designer.
The music invites a range of emotions such as sadness, joy, tenderness, and melancholy with guided meditation questions. while tea and conscious breathing offer a steady anchor. Through mindful sipping and breath, we practice observing what arises without being pulled to extremes.
A quiet practice of balance, moment by moment, the middle path.
