About this Event
“Whether he’s playing sax, singing or scattin’, Max Wagner is a guarantee to grab your
attention, put a smile on your face and satisfy even the most discerning jazz fan!”

MAX WAGNER
Saxophonist / Vocalist / Composer / Lyricist ...that cat can scat!
Max Wagner is a dynamic and accomplished saxophonist and Jazz vocalist. He has received
notice in DOWNBEAT magazine, been described by the Denver Post as “a powerful and
innovative soloist”, by Westword as “Denver’s candidate for the ‘Alto Madness’ award”, and in
the Coloradoan as a “world class Jazz artist”. The Kansas City Star says “Max Wagner’s music
is food for the soul.” Max has worked with many of the great Jazz Artists of our time, and has
performed across the country in Concert, at Jazz Festivals, in Jazz Clubs, and performed live
on Radio and Television. His latest CDs, “Gratitude” and “Night Song” were each named
album of the month by Denver’s nationally top-rated Jazz radio station, KUVO; and also
received national airplay. He lives by the premise that in music, and in Jazz in particular,
"saying something” is still the bottom line. For Wagner, Jazz is more than music—it is a
profound expression of humanity, a bridge between artist and listener, and a legacy of love and
creativity.
For this Denver Jazz Fest performance, Max will be joined by a stellar Rhythm Section of
Pianist, Dave Hanson, Domi Edson on Bass, and Mike Marlier at the Drum set; plus special
guest, Trumpeter, Derek Banach.
The Quartet and Quintet will perform a program of BeBop and Post Bop classics, Brazilian
treasures, great Standards, and MORE!
“Every moment in a Jazz performance is the moment of truth.”
–Max Wagner
