The Inheritance (2020), the feature debut from Ephraim Asili.

Set within a West Philadelphia row house, this striking ensemble work follows a collective of young Black artists and organizers attempting to build political community while navigating the tensions, humor, and contradictions of collective life. Drawing from Asili’s own experiences in Black liberationist spaces, the film intertwines scripted drama with historical reflections on the Philadelphia organization MOVE and the lasting impact of the 1985 police bombing.

Bold, intellectually rich, and deeply human, The Inheritance is a meditation on Black radical tradition, communal living, and the unfinished work of liberation. ✿
