The Quaker way has undergone many changes since the start of the movement in the 1650s. This day will offer a clear and accessible outline of the key changes in attitude and emphasis that have brought us to our current expression of the Quaker faith. Thus, the day will run through the different periods of Quaker theology, starting with an in-depth exploration of the first Friends. How Quakers have related to wider society, and what Friends sense their purpose is, has changed in each period and is key to how the movement has changed in the way it sees itself and presents itself.
We will look in particular too at the beginnings of the form of Quakerism we currently enjoy and some of the ways in which it coheres in spite of theological diversity. There will be mix of input and discussion, with no prior knowledge assumed. This course is ideal for newcomers as well as those seeking a refresher.
Bookings are £30. For more information visit: https://www.woodbrooke.org.uk/courses/the-history-of-the-quaker-way-2/
