A deep dive into the evolution of synthesizers and how they shaped the sound of music.
About this Event

In this session, artist-producer Houg teams up with Arturia to explore the history and evolution of synthesizers through both a musical and technological lens. Moving across key eras, the workshop traces how these instruments developed from experimental machines into essential creative tools used across genres today.

Along the way, you’ll gain a clearer understanding of how different forms of synthesis emerged, why certain sounds became culturally significant, and how vintage ideas continue to influence modern production.

Houg (Sameh Wahba) is a Singaporean artist-producer known for his work in chillwave and trip-hop, blending elements of pop, jazz, and rock into immersive, textured soundscapes. Since the release of his debut album The Biting Tempo, he has built a reputation for intricate production and thoughtful musical storytelling, while collaborating with regional acts such as Supergoods and VIDEOTAPEMUSIC.

Founded in Grenoble, France, Arturia is globally recognised for developing music software and hardware that bridge classic synthesis with modern workflows — including their acclaimed V Collection and instruments like the MiniBrute and MatrixBrute.

What to Expect

The Origins of Synthesis – How early modular systems evolved into musical instruments.

The Golden Era – The rise of analog and polyphonic synths that defined decades of music.

The Digital Shift – How FM synthesis and sampling changed sound design.

Modern Applications – How classic and contemporary tools coexist in today’s production landscape.

Open Q&A – A chance to ask about synths, sound design, and creative workflows.

Whether you’re a producer, musician, or simply curious about the sounds behind your favourite tracks, this session offers a deeper understanding of the machines that continue to shape modern music.
