About this Event
This event takes place on Tuesday the 31st of March and is the fourth of MathsWorld London's year long programme of monthly evening talks and events.
When someone mentions knitting, it’s unlikely that the first word to spring to mind is “mathematics”, but it turns out that fibre arts such as knitting and crochet have strands of mathematics woven into their very fabric.
Learn how crochet allowed us to visualise complex mathematical surfaces long before they could be studied with 3D computer models, and discover the careful computations behind beautiful knitted creations.
Visitors will have the opportunity to arrive from 18.15 to explore the ground floor of MathsWorld before entry to the upstairs talk area opens at 18:50. The talk will begin at approximately 19.00 and last approximately 1 hour, allowing some time to explore the centre afterwards before we close at 21:00.
