On July 18th, join us for an EmpowerHER session led by Diana Talpa and Ashley Summers Baker of BMO Harris Bank for a deep dive into finance, credit, and business. About 57% of Americans are financially literate. The number of women-owned businesses doubled between 2019 and 2023, compared to those owned by men. Additionally, the growth rate for women-owned businesses increased to 4.5% from 2022 to 2023. Finance may not be the most glamorous aspect of business ownership, but it is crucial, and the more you understand it, the better you can take control.
Ashley will address the five C's of credit: Character, Capacity, Capital, Collatoral and Conditions: the critical elements that should be a key focus when building a business from a banking perspective. Your business has no credit, how do you build it? At what stages should you be thinking about credit? Do you need it? How do you maintain good credit? Are you managing your business debt responsibly?
Diana will cover the broad strokes of building from a financial perspective such as business growth and exit strategies. She'll speak to understanding financial statements, improving margins, and what businesses need to do to sell at a nice multiple. Have you thought about your exit strategy while building? You're growing a business, but what if your margins suck? Do you know what your competitors are doing with their margins? Does the same work for your business? Are you simply selling a product now and worrying about all of this later?
