About this Event
Ever wondered what happened to Prince’s clothes? This talk traces their journeys beyond Paisley Park’s formal archive to reveal the everyday presence of fashion in Prince’s life. Drawing on interviews with fans and private collectors, it examines how Prince-worn garments, now cared for in homes across the world, can expand our understanding of his sartorial legacy. Objects discussed include a beaded blouse worn in Under the Cherry Moon (1986), a customised promotional t-shirt (1992), and a well-worn pair of shared boots (2011). By tracing the stories of these items, The Afterlives of Prince’s Clothes offers new insights into Prince as both performer and person, while highlighting how fans help preserve and extend his cultural legacy posthumously.
the 45 minute talk will be followed by a free screeninhg of Prince's film "Under the Cherry Moon" 1986
Prince plays the part of Christopher Tracy, an international playboy who travels across the French Riviera, stealing hearts and stashing cash alongside his loyal companion Tricky (Jerome Benton). Tracy runs around the coast in cuban heels seducing diplomat wives, daughters and mistresses until he meets debutante Mary Sharon (Kristen Scott-Thomas) and everything changes...
