The Big Cathedral Knit is back! Help knit and crochet blankets for people experiencing houselessness across London.
About this Event

Grab your knitting needles or crochet hook and join us at Southwark Cathedral on Saturday 1 August anytime between 10am – 4pm for a day of fun and creativity.

The Big Cathedral Knit is a knitting and crochet marathon workshop by Craft Forward and hosted at Southwark Cathedral. Knitters will be producing 20x20cm knitted and crocheted squares to go towards Blankets for London – Craft Forward’s seasonal project where they assemble blankets to donate to unhoused individuals in London through partner charities. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced maker, everyone is welcome to come together and work for this community project in this beautiful setting. Share tips, learn new techniques and enjoy the company of fellow knitting and crochet enthusiasts. All materials are provided, but if you are an experienced knitter or crocheter, please bring your own knitting needles or crochet hook and a ball of yarn to make from. If you are a beginner, come along and we will help you start your crafting journey.

Thanks to the generosity of yarn donations, we are now unable to accept any more. You are still encouraged to bring your own yarn to knit on the day, but please do not bring any yarn donations. We are also unable to accept any squares or blanket donations on the day, make sure to send those by post during our collection period.

This event will be taking place in the Cathedral and Churchyard located opposite Borough Market. It is expected to be very busy as the Cathedral will be open to all visitors on the day and we cannot guarantee those taking part in the knit a seat, but there will be plenty of indoor and outdoor space weather permitting.

This is a free event. There will be a limited number of walk-in places available, as such, we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
