About this Event

"From team member to team leader"

This three week course was created by UNISON Cymru Wales, public service employers and management training specialists Perrett Brown to help people who work in front line roles in the NHS, local authorities, social care and across the rest of the public services to go for promotions and become new leaders in their workplaces.

The course is run over three x two and a half hour webinars and expert tutor Hazel Perrett will guide you through some of the essential elements of management and leadership in the workplace.

Please only book this event if you are able to attend all 3 sessions.

Here's what you'll learn...

14 January (9.30 – 12:15pm)- Session 1 – The Development Journey -

  • Understand learning styles and the impact they can have when developing yourself – The learning styles questionnaire
  • Review the competency staircase and how to plan your development
  • Know the role of a manager and the qualities that make a good manager
  • Exploring the skills and competencies
  • Organisational awareness how the management role fits in to the wider picture
  • Start preparing a personal action plan for self- development –different methods of development and setting personal objectives

21 January (9.30 – 12 noon)- Session 2 – Effective communication skills

  • Understanding communication preferences and the impact that has on the way you interact with others – Self-awareness communication questionnaire
  • Review different management/leadership styles and it is when best to use them – Situational leadership styles assessment
  • Tips and techniques on engaging and understanding others to influence and persuade other people to achieve desired outcomes

28 January (9:30 to 12 noon) - Session 3 – Managing People & Resources

  • How to build and get the best out of the team
  • Key components of managing performance and results
  • Work effectively under pressure and get results
  • Know how to solve problems and manage change
  • Review the next steps to the transition from team leader to team manager

Links to join sessions 2 and 3 will be provided to learners who attend Session 1.
