Tour Neon artist, Michael Flechtner's studio, and watch him create a working piece of Neon art!
About this Event

Join us Sunday, March 22nd for a Curio Club LA exclusive tour of local, San Fernando Valley, Neon artist Michael Flechtner's studio. Michael has been working as a neon artist for nearly 4 decades. His art has been featured in several museums and gallery shows around the country, as well as internationally. He is on the board at the Museum Of Neon Art in Glendale, where he has an incredible solo show up through June 7th; learn more about that show HERE. He has been commissioned to create and fix several neon pieces around LA and elsewhere. During this event, Michael will give us a full tour of his private studio where he creates all his Neon works of art. He will then give us a live demo, in which he will create a fully functional piece of neon before our very eyes. Attendees will have the opportunity to bend their own piece of neon glass tubing, which they will get to take home as a souvenir.

When asked about his work, Michael said, “I’m ever mindful of the compelling nature of this pure, colored, glowing light and the tendency of many to see ‘all things neon' as signage or kitsch. It is my experience that the more traditional viewer and critic resist seeing neon as a fine art medium.”

Michael’s work uses various symbols of language, technology and how they influence popular culture. “I describe animals, machinery, people, etc. and utilize various forms of language. These ‘components’ inhabit my internal landscape. I bring forth and arrange this highly idiosyncratic material to create pictograms, ideograms and rebuses, surely shaped by the effects of my unconscious.” - quotes borrowed from Michael’s artist statement with permission.

This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who’s interested in art, chemistry, the world of neon, or just a curious human who wants to experience something truly unique.
