An Alexander Technique Approach to Preventing Pain While Working
About this Event

How many times a day do you catch yourself hunched over your laptop? How often does ‘I’m working so hard!’ translate into ‘all my muscles are tense!’? What if there was a way to prevent all those headaches and stiff necks and muscles that feel like rocks? What if you don’t have to learn to do something new, you just have to stop doing all the unnecessary stuff.

The Alexander Technique is a world-renowned mind-body technique that can help you find freedom and ease in whatever you choose to do - both at work and when you’re off the clock. Join Sarah Young, the only NYC-based Alexander Technique teacher certified in the Interactive Teaching Method, to discover how you can stop doing so much and make your working time easier and more sustainable. Work smarter, not harder with this new way to think about how do everything you need to do.

Note that there is the opportunity for some hands-on instruction, where Sarah will work with someone (or more, time permitting) who is sitting. This is not required to attend the event, but volunteers are most appreciated!

Key learning outcomes:

  • The idea of “poise” vs position or posture. Dynamic vs static.
  • Starting with the head/body relationship as a way to disrupt habits
  • Using only as much effort as needed to complete a task
  • Common ways we put in too much effort: overestimating how much effort is needed and recruiting muscles that can’t perform the task.
