The Art of Cooking: Expanding the Basics - No-Bake Granola Bars with Fresh Fruit and Yogurt Parfait

Activity Name: The Art of Cooking - Expanding The Basics (Level 2)

Ages: Ages 7/8 through Adult

Activity Description: The Art of Cooking Program is designed for children and adults with and without special needs seeking to develop basic cooking skills in a supportive and safe environment. This class will focus on learning to read recipes and how to properly use measuring cups and spoons as they advance in their cooking skills.

Each student will get hands-on practice in understanding the difference between measuring liquid and dry ingredients. This particular class is a step up from our Back to the Basics cooking class and will help each individual expand their ability to understand and implement cooking in their lives. Participants will learn how to use a simple recipe that they can recreate at home and will be encouraged to learn about cooking in a fun and engaging way.

Join us to learn how to make simple and delicious meals using different cooking tools. This class is approximately 2 hours long. Students must register at least 2 days in advance to allow for purchase of fresh ingredients.

Price: $65 per class, per person (Members Pay $55). Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Students must register at least 2 days in advance.

More Information: Our Art of Cooking classes are designed to teach the fundamentals of cooking, food prep, and meal planning.

During each class, one of our experienced instructors walks students through the journey of gaining independence while learning the Art of Cooking.

We approach this class as if we are teaching a life skill as a part of our Art of Life Program. This skill set will follow the student for his or her entire life. We are very deliberate in our approach to teaching. We foster independence and teach the students the fundamental skill of caring for themselves. This class encourages self-confidence and positive self-care, teaches healthy choice-making and builds skills that work toward independence and a successful future.

We use tools that are safe and simple to use and meals that are easy to recreate safely at home. The basics class uses tools such as electric skillets, electric griddles, crock pots, and air friers. This allows the student to learn how to prepare food without the dangers that may happen for beginners at home. Our goal is that the student will be able to manage this task independently and without parental or adult supervision.
