About this Event
Get involved in the fixing process and experience the beauty of community repair events. Aside from reducing waste and extending the life of your items, this is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more from fixers about how to repair your items. No experience needed, just bring your curiosity and willingness to learn!
Please book a fixing slot below.
Walk ins are also welcome (12:00-14:30). We will do our best to squeeze you in, but please be aware that we can’t guarantee that a fixer will be available to look at your item. You may also have to wait to be seen by a fixer.
Youthbuild Ventures is located on the road behind the Moorings.
We're working with Bexley Council to grow a community-led repair group, who will organise regular repair cafes in Thamesmead and ensure residents benefit from these events for as long as possible!
Interested in volunteering with Thamesmead Repair Cafe at future events? Please email [email protected]. There are plenty of ways to get involved, from helping organise the repair cafes and hosting on the day to volunteering as a fixer and organising refreshments.
Stay on after the event for our first social 🥳
Open to everyone already involved in Thameasmead Repair Cafes and anyone who'd like to see what it's about. There are plenty of ways to take part- from cake baking to tea/coffee making, fixing, hosting, helping organise the repair cafes and more. Grab a cuppa, meet like-minded people and find out more information about events.
We're also keen to collaborate with other local organisations and community groups, so please feel free to join and connect if these events align nicely with your activities and work.
Information on the items you can/can't bring:
Electricals/electronics: fixers can attempt to fix most small household appliances. However, we won't be able to fix the following: white goods, microwaves, printers, e-bikes, e-scooters, or EV batteries, smartphones or tablets, televisions or monitors. Please remember to bring any spare parts, chargers or cables along with your item.
Textiles: We can attempt to repair most textile items, including clothing and bags. We can only accept items that need repairing and are not an alteration service. We can also help creatively upcycle items that are stained or marked. Please remember to bring any items like a new zip or replacement buttons with you.
Please note:
- As a general rule, we can look at one item per person. You will be assigned a repair slot. If we are able to look at more than one item with you in the time assigned to that slot, we would be happy to.
- Our fixers will do their very best to diagnose and fix your item. However, this isn’t always possible. If it's not possible, our fixers will help you diagnose the issue and identify potential next steps.
- Please let us know what you're planning on bringing, we'll let you know [in advance] if this is something we can't repair
- We’re happy to help you learn how to repair. We are not repair professionals, and Repair Cafes are a community self-repair space. Attending means that you take responsibility for your own gadget. Please back up your data.
