Tending The Quiet - 2026 is a screening event around the remnants of home, belonging and finding solace in unconventional spaces.
About this Event

A screening event around the remnants of home, belonging and finding solace in unconventional spaces. These slow-paced, internal personal experiences on film, allow you to pause with your own thoughts and comfort.

Scottish BAFTA nominated short film ‘Friends On The Outside’, is one of the films selected to be screened at ‘Tending The Quiet’. The short tells the testimony of an incarcerated man who finds comfort in foraging for chamomile. Directed by, Annabelle Moodie.
Gareth Beale, film director and archaeologist will also showcase his short. Made in and around Helensburgh and the Rosneath peninsula (Scotland) from April to December 2020. It is a response to archaeology encountered in the course of life and examines the interplay between human presence and ecological change. Gareth made the film while exploring his new home and it is reflection on the formation and discovery of connections to a new place.
Sam Mutch, film curation graduate and filmmaker has a particular interest in silent film, film history and archiving. Growing up in the village of Pittenweem, Fife, much of his work has been related to rural Scotland and the process of archiving in these areas. He has written for The Glasgow Guardian and recently undertook a successful internship at the Hippodrome Silent Film Festival.THE FILM ARCHIVE AND MEMORY: a personal testimony of Pittenweem is a deeply personal short documentary that explores the nature of archives and home movies. It revolves around a selection of untouched footage from the filmmaker's childhood, and compares this with footage in the same locations from 1939 and 2024. The film plays on the limited amount of available archive footage from the village of Pittenweem to argue the merit of home movies as archives themselves, as well as the value of unsorted archives in providing the most honest portrayal of their subject.
Content Warning: Friends on The Outside deals with an incarerated man who has struggled with drug addiction. There is swearing, mentions of drug use and commentary on imprisonment.
