Experience traditional craftsmanship preserved by generations of Japanese artisans and create your own beautiful temari inspired by cherry blossoms.

This 2-hour 45-minute beginner-friendly workshop will guide you step-by-step as you learn techniques rooted in Japan’s rich cultural heritage. Slow down, enjoy a mindful creative experience, and leave with an elegant handmade piece you’ll be proud to display.

What is Temari?

Temari (手まり)is a folk craft originating from Japan around 1300 years ago. Traditionally made in the form of "hand balls" given from parents to children on New Year's day. They've become a popular and versatile gift item while remaining a refreshing toy for children to play with.

About the Instructor

Asami Kusakabe:日本てまりの会 師範 (Shihan) Master, Japan Temari Association

Asami is a skilled artist specializing in temari balls and realistic portraiture. A self-taught craftswoman, she has earned the esteemed title of Shihan (Master Instructor) from the Japan Temari Association (JTA). Since leading her first workshop at Nikkei Place in 2018, she has been dedicated to sharing her expertise and the joy of handcrafting with others, continually seeking opportunities to inspire and guide new creators.
