Centrala are proud to partner with Tell It To The Music, a poetry/spoken word open mic featuring improvising instrumentalists! Give the musicians as much or as little direction you like – a fear, a foe, a fuss, or just say ‘follow me’ and see what happens…
Tell It to the Music is a poetry open mic featuring a live band of improvising musicians. As you read your poem, the musicians will play with you, pushing and pulling the words you’ve written into ideas you may not have previously imagined!
Sign up for the open mic at the door, and before you read your poem, simply give the musicians a prompt. This can be what the poem is about or how it makes you feel, but we encourage you to find abstract ways to prompt us, perhaps thinking of a strange detail within the poem, or a sound effect related to where you wrote it.
As part of our LOOM Lab Project with Birmingham City Council, Centrala actively invites Afghan and Syrian Resettlement Scheme members to join us at this event free of charge, either to perform or listen – if you’d like to meet our team before the event starts, we’d love to welcome you with a hot drink in our space.
