About this Event

Designing Collaborative Intelligence Campus is a continuation of the Illinois AI Workforce Development Roundtable, advancing the statewide conversation from strategy to action. Building on insights from leaders across education, industry, workforce development, and government, this convening focuses on how Illinois can intentionally design campus-to-career ecosystems that prepare students and entry-level professionals for success in the AI economy.

At the center of the event is the concept of Collaborative Intelligence—how humans and AI systems work together—and what it means for curriculum design, early-career pathways, employer engagement, and workforce policy. The discussion will focus on translating this concept into practical models that equip learners with Human + AI skills aligned to real workforce needs.

Speakers

  • Klara Nahrstedt, Director of Coordinated Science Laboratory, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  • Derek Hoiem, Chief Science Officer & Reconstruction Professor in Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  • Derek Ferguson, Chief Software Officer, The Fitch Group
  • Mahesh Viswanathan, Professor, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  • Anusha Dwivedula, Director of Product Management, Analytics, Morningstar
  • Nathan Landay, Associate Director, Stanford Engineering Center for Global & Online Education (Stanford Online)
  • Xiaochen Zhang, Chief Responsible AI Officer, AI 2030About Tech Pulse 2030

The event is designed to deliver three concrete outcomes:

First, participants will work toward defining the roles of higher education institutions, corporate employers, and government agencies within a Collaborative Intelligence Campus. This shared framework will clarify how each stakeholder contributes to talent development—from education and credentialing to hiring, policy, and ecosystem support.

Second, the convening will surface and share innovative case studies, collaborative models, and cross-sector partnerships that are already advancing entry-level talent readiness. These examples will highlight how coordinated efforts between campuses, employers, and workforce organizations can accelerate successful transitions into AI-enabled roles.

Third, the event will identify resources and next steps needed to advance Human + AI skills across Illinois. Participants will explore actionable pathways, funding opportunities, and collaboration mechanisms to scale effective models and sustain long-term workforce impact.

By grounding the conversation in clearly defined outcomes, Designing Collaborative Intelligence Campus aims to move beyond dialogue toward collective action—helping Illinois build a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready AI workforce that empowers the next generation to thrive in the Human + AI era.
