About this Event

[EN] This workshop is structured in two interconnected modules. In the first module, participants will be introduced to the historical, aesthetic, and political foundations of the Brazilian Teatro Experimental do Negro— Black Experimental Theater, engaging directly with its texts, images, and performative techniques through embodied practice and collective exploration. In the second module, participants will transform the materials, tools, and experiences from Module One into original, author-driven performance pieces.

[PT] Este workshop é estruturado em dois módulos interconectados. No primeiro módulo, as/os participantes serão introduzidas/os aos fundamentos históricos, estéticos e políticos do Teatro Experimental do Negro (Brasil), engajando-se diretamente com seus textos, imagens e técnicas performativas por meio de práticas corporais e de exploração coletiva. No segundo módulo, as/os participantes irão transformar os materiais, ferramentas e experiências do Módulo Um em criações performáticas originais, autorais e conduzidas por suas próprias vozes.

The Paulo Freire Initiative is thrilled to have Josanna Vaz facilitating this Workshop Series!

[EN] Josanna Vaz is an actress, visual artist, and performer with over 20 years of experience in theater, film, and television. A Performing Arts graduate from UFMG and former member of Nós do Morro, she trained with Ron Stetson, Cicely Berry, and Larry Moss. As a visual artist, she uses performance as her primary medium. Co-creator of Riven, featured in American Theatre as “a force of an actor, a powerhouse.”

[PT] Josanna Vaz é atriz, artista visual e performer, com mais de 20 anos de experiência em teatro, cinema e televisão. É formada em Artes Cênicas pela UFMG e ex-integrante do grupo Nós do Morro. Estudou com Ron Stetson, Cicely Berry e Larry Moss. Como artista visual, utiliza a performance como seu principal meio de expressão. É co-criadora de Riven, destacada pela American Theatre como “uma força como atriz, um verdadeiro powerhouse”.
