An evening of 19th-century sound: Tchaikovsky’s Third Symphony Gluck’s Ballet Suite No. 2 and a new overture by Ian Plansker.
19:30 Sunday 9 November - Dominicuskerk Spuistraat 12 Amsterdam
Tchaikovsky’s Third Symphony holds a unique place in the composer’s output. It neither wrestles with the classical structure as his first two symphonies do nor does it yet reflect the full individuality of his later symphonies. Instead it paints a picture of the artist coming into his own—it’s a work of exuberance and growing confidence. Throughout the symphony listeners are treated to Tchaikovsky’s signature pathos moments of triumph and early hints of the orchestral magic that would later define his ballets.
