Taming An Angry Uterus invites participants to step out of the fear-based, pathologizing narratives that often surround menopause and perimenopause and into a more grounded, compassionate understanding of what their bodies are doing. Instead of treating every symptom as a malfunction, this class explores hormonal change as a normal — if sometimes intense — developmental stage. We’ll unpack what’s actually happening in the body during perimenopause and menopause, why symptoms can vary so widely, and why so many people feel blindsided or ashamed by experiences that are both common and expected.
A core focus of this class is how expectations shape lived experience. When society frames aging, menstruation, and hormonal shifts as embarrassing, inconvenient, or inherently “wrong,” it can amplify distress and disconnection from the body. We’ll examine how cultural messaging, gendered expectations, productivity pressure, and medical narratives influence how symptoms are interpreted — and how much suffering is created not by the sensations themselves, but by the belief that something has gone terribly wrong. Participants are encouraged to reflect on what they were taught (or not taught) about menopause and how that knowledge — or lack of it — affects their experience.
This class does not reject medical care, but it challenges the idea that medical intervention is always the default or the goal. We’ll discuss a wide range of ways people relate to this transition, including lifestyle support, nervous-system regulation, community knowledge, tracking patterns, and when medical options may feel supportive rather than corrective. The goal is autonomy, context, and self-trust — giving participants language and perspective to make choices that align with their values, bodies, and lived realities, rather than fear or external pressure.
About Your Instructor: Fawn O'Breitzman is a Denver-based educator, entrepreneur, and advocate for inclusive, fact-based sex education. With over 25 years of experience teaching human sexuality and gender studies, she co-founded The Sexploratorium, a space dedicated to sexual health, body positivity, and LGBTQ+ inclusivity. Fawn has taught at colleges and universities, led workshops on sexual values and history, and appeared on podcasts like Small Acts of Rebellion to discuss gaps in traditional sex education. She is a mother of two adopted children and been married for 25 years. She is happily enjoying middle age and the changes that come with it!
