About this Event
Long before modern healthcare systems were established, Thorney Island became a centre for innovation in hospital care by concentrating for the first time on curing patients and not just caring for them as religious foundations and charities did in earlier times. It created the world's first public subscription hospital. Thorney Island played a vital role in redefining what healthcare could be.
