As part of the Food & Drink Studio’s "Food & The Arts" summer season, join writer Kate Young for a special evening celebrating food as it appears on the page.
Kate is a writer and cook who spent her childhood in Australia reading books indoors before moving to London, Her award-winning 'The Little Library' cookbooks – the first of which was shortlisted for the Fortnum & Maso debut book award in 2017 – feature recipes inspired by beloved works of literature. Think Bridget Jones's blue soup, buckets of kimchi from Min Jin Lee's Pachinko, or seed cake in The Hobbit.
Nodding to Pride month, this event will bring that idea into focus through a queer lens. Guests will enjoy a three‑course dinner inspired by food passages from LGBTQI+ writing, with each course introduced with a reading of the relevant excerpt.
As the evening unfolds, Kate will reflect on how food functions within these works — whether as symbolism of pleasure, identity or memory.
Open to anyone with a passion for food and literature.
