It’s amazing what you can learn from a little adjustable stick on a flat surface. Many will be familiar with Sundials as an ancient clock, but did you know it can also be used
- As a compass?
- As a calendar?
- As a GPS system?
Unlocking the keys to this powerful pocket gadget requires insights that span astronomy, maths, languages and craft, taking a journey from ancient wisdom to the frontiers of contemporary knowledge and mysteries.
Afterall, that little adjustable stick isn’t called a gnomon - ‘one that knows’ - for nothing...
*** AGES: This particular workshop is tailored towards ages of around 8+, welcoming adults too. If parents or guardians would like to attend but not participate, a £10 ticket covers lunch and a seat.
*** PRICE: The £30 ticket per participant covers lunch and sundial kit, so participants walk away with their own Pocket Sundial
***TIMINGS: The workshop will start at 11am, running until 3pm, with activities around the gardens and a long break to make and eat lunch together
*** LOCATION: Weather permitting, we will be in the But failing that, the workshop will take place inside the library event space.
*** REGISTRATION: Spaces are limited to 12 participants and non-participants. Refunds are possible up to 48 hours in advance.
