About this Event

Join pianist Lu Liu for a lunchtime recital with a programme featuring works from the Baroque to the Romantic and beyond.

Lu Liu is a pianist currently undertaking postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama under Professor Alexandra Dariescu. Originally studying German Language and Literature at Fudan University in Shanghai, Liu graduated with top honours and received several prestigious academic awards, including the National Scholarship, the highest level of scholarship in China. During her time at Fudan she served as president of the Fudan Piano Association, organising concerts and workshops, teaching fellow students, and establishing a strong musical presence alongside her academic studies.

Liu’s musical activity spans a wide range of contexts. In addition to solo work, she is regularly involved in chamber music, song accompaniment, and contemporary music workshops. Her recent performances include solo recitals at Milton Court Concert Hall and the Shenzhen Piano Museum, as well as the world premiere of “Hitting Different” by Matthijs van Dijk for piano and cello. Earlier appearances include venues in China such as the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre, the Steinway and Bechstein Centres in Shanghai, and the Fudan University Concert Hall. She has received prizes at competitions including the Magnolia Shanghai International Music Festival, the Hongkong-Asia Piano Open Competition and the Shenzhen Piano Open Competition. She has also had the privilege of receiving coaching and masterclasses from musicians such as Martin Roscoe, Noriko Ogawa, Charles Owen, Laura Roberts, Gareth Owen, Caroline Palmer and Lei Weng.

While completing her undergraduate studies at Fudan University, Liu also studied at the University of Göttingen in Germany on an exchange programme, further broadening her cultural and academic perspectives. Her repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary, with a continuing focus on both solo and collaborative performance.
