About this Event

Join us on Sunday March 23rd for an incredible live music experience featuring LeDawan Taylor as she presents Women Empowerment: Iconic Divas of Their Time at the legendary Minton's Playhouse in Harlem, NYC.

About LeDawn Taylor:

Born in Oklahoma City, LaDawn Taylor grew up in Houston and started her entertainment career in Orlando. This is her story, from the beginning to the present:

LaDawn started singing at age 6, gaining her confidence in gospel choirs at church and in school. She decided to pursue the performing arts at Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduating, she took a leap of faith and moved to Orlando, Florida with the hope of getting her foot in the door with Disney. In less than a year, she was selected from among hundreds of candidates and cast as Princess Tiana, Disney’s first Black American princess, in The Princess and the Frog at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. This gave LaDawn her biggest platform to date. Her face was seen all over the world in commercial and T.V. appearances which included Good Morning America, The Kelly & Michael Show and The View among many others. With Disney’s support, LaDawn was given the opportunity to open a show in Hong Kong Disneyland, portraying Princess Tiana in Mickey and the Wonderous Book. This led to the achievement of her largest goal to date, the leading role of Nala in The Festival of the Lion King. During her time in Asia, she began performing in charity events as lead vocalist for Transform HK and Freedom Asia.

Upon her return from Asia, LaDawn moved to New York City where she's appeared in several television series episodes including Power, Orange is the New Black, Godfather of Harlem, and Emmy award-winning Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Fun fact: Ladawn was interviewed as Princess Tiana during Buzzfeed’s Secrets of Disney Princess Revealed, and it went viral within 24hrs! LaDawn briefly returned to Asia as a cast member of Tokyo Japan’s Broadway Christmas Wonderland 2019.

Most recently, LaDawn made it to the fourth round of auditions for the Broadway revival of Aida, choreographed by the Tony Award-winning Camille Brown, just days before theatre was shut down for COVID-19. LaDawn has been excited to be performing as Nancy with the incredibly talented cast of Henry Box Brown: A Musical Journey, a New York stage production from the Children’s Theatre Company, prior to and during the global pandemic.

LaDawn is led by a personal mission to accomplish the following goals:

  • Sharing her story through her acting and singing
  • Giving back to her community
  • Empowering others to follow her lead and do whatever it is that their hearts desire

LaDawn’s unwavering determination has been the driving force behind her accomplishments since her journey began and will continue to inspire her and challenge her until those goals, and more, are achieved.

Mark your calendars and get ready for a night of unforgettable music!
