About this Event
, we inspire deeper connection to ourselves, each other, and the Earth through song. We believe in the healing, freedom, and joy that can come through communal singing, and aim to make that experience more widely accessible.
This song share circle will be led by community members Sukriti Dabral & Anne Lodick, with support from Amelia Gossett.
About Solstice: Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year and the time when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. This is the point in the year when nature is at its most abundant and flowers and plants are in full bloom. It is a time to honor the sun which brings light and life to the earth and fortifies us for the darker days ahead.
Bonfire Songshare Circle: We will honor this seasonal moment outdoors around a fire as well as a community abundance altar. What makes you feel so abundant that you have more of it than you need, so you may share it with community? All are welcome to bring a short & simple song to teach the group. Possible seasonal themes include light, growth, vitality- any song that leaves you abundant with something. We are happy to assist you with teaching and song leading- you'll have as much support as you want!
Non-Perishable Food Item Drive: On the theme of abundance, we will also be collecing non-perishable food item donations, which we will then distribute to local community fridges & pantries in JP, Cambridgte and Somerville - places that make our circles possible all year long :)
You are also welcome to bring just your voice and ears. There is abundance in presence :)
Flow:
- 6 - 7 pm: Community Potluck & Fire Building
- 7 - 10:45pm: Bonfire Songshare Circle (w/smores & breaks)
...you are welcome to leave early as you please, ofc
Bring: Potluck dish, non-perishable food donation for our community fridges & pantries, a water bottle, blanket or cushion to sit on, and perhaps a short & simple song that leaves you abundant in something you'd like to share with everyone present.
Potluck: We’ll provide at least three dishes, plates & silverware. All are invited to bring a dish to complete our meal. Please include a card with ingredients listed. We will also have s'mores stuff and sticks for roasting at the fire!
Children of all ages are warmly invited to participate in this circle. We love the energy that children often bring to our circles, and also have moments that ask for deeper stillness and quiet that can sometimes be challenging for young ones. We ask caregivers to be mindful of this balance with us. There is a playground and ample space outdoors for them to play in if they need a break from participating directly in the circle.
Location: Hope Central Church is a 4 minute walk from the Green Street stop on the orange line, and has its own free parking lot across the street. Weather allowing, we will be outdoors in the courtyard for the entirety of the event. In the event of rain, we will move indoors.
RSVP & Cost: We encourage RSVPs through Eventbrite, but walk-ins are welcome too. Sliding Scale $10-30. You can pay through eventbrite, pay cash at the door, or venmo @bostonareasingingcircles. No one turned away for lack of funds.
