About this Event
The day after Juneteenth, we are going to the water.
Carson Beach has not always held us. In 1975, this shoreline was not offered to us as a place of belonging.
On Saturday June 20, we are returning.
We are returning with our bodies, our breath, our joy, and our rest. We are taking up space because that is what our ancestors deserved, and what we deserve now.
Yoga For Us | Wellness For Us is an affinity space gathering that centers Black, African American, and Black Indigenous folks, and welcomes all who move through the world as a person of color.
This is a soft, slow gathering.
Come as you are.
We will arrive together, breathe together, and let the water remind us that rest is a birthright.
Come to rest.
Come to daydream.
Come to blow bubbles and fly kites.
Come to make small art with watercolors.
Come to remember the water.
Come to feel the shoreline beneath you like something familiar and welcoming.
This is our first of four waterside gatherings this season, and we hope you will let it hold you.
What To Bring
• A blanket or beach towel
• Water
• Sunscreen and a hat if the sun is bright
• A journal or notebook, if you like
• Comfortable clothes you can move and rest in
• An open heart
We will provide light snacks, fresh fruit, juice, and a few small materials for play and creativity.
