Learn the art of Suminagashi: Meditative Marbling at Dovetail Brewery, located between Ravenswood Corridor and the North Center neighborhood, about one mile from Wrigley Field.
In this workshop, guided by Kelly Laughlin, founder of Odette Press, you'll make marbled designs using ink, breath, and water. You'll leave with a collection of mesmerizing artful creations: marbled cards and envelopes, papers, and wooden boxes (great for gifting or packaging sweet treats).
Arrive curious, and leave feeling inspired.
Suminagashi is the ancient, meditative Japanese paper marbling process translating to "floating" or "spilled" ink. You'll learn how to use colorful inks to paint on the surface of water as you create one-of-a-kind marbled designs.
If you've been feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, or disconnected from the spark of your creativity, this tranquil, simple, intentional evening is here to support, ground, and revive you. The Flow:
Settle in to your spot at Dovetail and grab a drink from the bar. After a short creative prompt to inspire your creativity, you'll be led through a short demonstration of the Suminagashi process. After, you'll dive into the creative waters of marbling, finding inspiration in the soothing, mesmerizing practice. The rest of the time is yours to go with the flow as you creative your marbled designs. You'll leave with a collection of handmade marbled cards, envelopes, papers, and wooden boxes (great for gifting, letter writing, collaging, or bringing artful inspiration to your office or home!)

Kelly Odette Laughlin is a Chicago-based artist, writer, facilitator, and creative guide and the founder of Odette Press. Her practice is an infusion of movement, ink, breath, paper, water and lyricism, drawing from a deep connection with the senses and the natural world.
