Street Photography Portrait Workshop
As many of you know, I quite enjoy making street portraits—capturing authentic moments of people in everyday life.
As this is one of the various street photography activities I enjoy, I must admit that beyond the technical photography skills, there is a bit more to it.

Making a street portrait involves various steps and techniques, including asking someone, giving a bit of direction and posing, composition, and then the shot.

Join this workshop where you'll not only refine your technical skills but also work on your confidence to interact with people and tell their stories through photography.

In this workshop, you'll be introduced to:
Composition – How to frame your subject for impactful and visually striking portraits.
Working with Available Light – Techniques for using natural light effectively, whether it’s soft and diffused or harsh midday sun.
Approaching People – How to confidently engage with strangers, build rapport, and ask for a portrait in a respectful and natural way.
Basic Posing and Direction – Learn how to subtly guide subjects to create natural, flattering poses while keeping the moment authentic and comfortable.
Background Selection – How to choose backgrounds that enhance your subject and create a compelling image.

Required equipment.
Any camera or smartphone will do.
No tripods or long zoom lenses required.

Bad weather.
In case of bad weather, the workshop will take place in a sheltered location.

Experience.
Basic knowledge of camera operation is required. The primary focus will be on the creative aspects of photography and how to approach people for a street portrait.

About the trainer.
Kevin’s photography spans multiple disciplines, all connected by a common theme: the urban and built environment.
He specialises in environmental portraiture, photographing people in real-world settings to highlight their connection to their surroundings—believing that a person’s environment tells a more compelling story than a studio backdrop ever could.

Beyond photographing people, Kevin also applies the concept of portraiture to buildings and objects, showcasing their character and presence within the urban landscape.

Kevin also lectures at the Royal College of Art and the University of the Arts London, mentoring new talent.
