About this Event
This 2-part program will introduce you to historic and contemporary street photography and encourage participants to build practical skills around camera techniques, composition and editing.
On completion of the course, you will be a more confident practitioner with expanded technical skills and a clear understanding of historic and contemporary approaches in street photography. You will have expanded your communication skills, being able to discuss your own work and the work of others. You will be able to work towards creating your own photographic series for exhibition.
PART 1 ‘Photography Histories’, 11th December 2024, 7pm-9pm
will be a discussion about the histories of street photography, from photography’s beginnings to 20th century documentary photography and contemporary approaches. Taking the movement around Henri Cartier-Bresson as a starting point, we will pay particular attention to female street photographers and photographer’s work from different communities.
PART 2 ‘Practical Workshop’, 15th January 2025, 7pm-9pm
will introduce essential camera techniques and creative strategies around storytelling. We will practice good camera habits, creative composition and build technical skill around image exposure, composition and digital editing. Participants will be encouraged to develop initial ideas for a photographic project and a framework for further development and production.
Progression
We will follow up in April and May 2025 with two further group workshops: a joined photo walk and working towards an exhibition of your photographs.
